Suricate has just been installed : what do I have to do ?
Nothing particular : Suricate is set up with default settings allowing a correct behaviour.
However, you can adapt the settings to your need. Options are accessible via Tools>Addons>Suricate>Options.

The most important option protects the settings with a password.
This will avoid your children from disabling filtering or uninstalling the addon.
It is highly recommended to activate this password protection.

To activate password protection, you first have to activate your account.
You just have to click on the "Activate my account" link, then provide a valid email address and the password you want to use.
The email address will be used if you forgot your password, in the unlock process.
This mailbox must not be accessible to your children.
To validate this mailbox, an email will be sent to it.
This email contains a link to confirm your account activation.
Once your activation is complete, you can choose to password protect your options ( or not ).
The password to be used is the one you provided in your activation request.

Other options have the following meaning :

  • Enable filtering : checked by default
    • Filtering denies access to sites banned by suricate users
    • It relies on a list of websites, published by suricate, and automatically updated on your browser
    • If you don't want your browsign to be filtered, you just have to disable this option.
  • Enable Unactivate and Uninstall buttons in the extension manager : not checked by default
    • When this option is activated, it allows anyone to disable or uninstall the addon.
    • It is then very easy to browse without beeing filtered.
  • Enable activation/deactivation of filtering from status bar : not checked by default
    • When this option is activated, it allows to quickly switch filtering on and off.
    • If you activated password protection, switching filtering off requires to enter the password.
  • When you ban a site, you consider it should be denied to children up to : 16 by default
    • You should normally set this to the age of your children.
    • It is used to adapt the blacklist to your need.
